Specialized Program Track – Rock Climbing – Session 2D
July 30, 2017 @ 12:00 am - August 12, 2017 @ 12:00 am EST
Would your child like to explore one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.? Or perhaps your child already knows he or she loves rock climbing. The Rock Climbing Program Track is available to campers enrolling in sessions of two weeks or longer and is two weeks in length. In our Rock Climbing Program Track, your child will spend about half of their time at camp over a two-week period on rock climbing, learning safety protocols, basic top rope rock climbing techniques, knot tying, belaying, and rappelling. First, your child will work on fundamental safety and moves like the crimp, lock-off, cross-over, swap-feet, and smear on a climbing wall. Then he or she will move to real rock, including rock faces with inclinations ranging from about 75% to about -15% (that’s an overhang!), and boulders to practice their moves and learn single pitch (one length of 50 to 60 meter rope) belayed climbing, mock sport climbing (where they practice clipping into bolts while actually being belayed at the same time for safety), and rappelling. Your child will learn under the careful tutelage of an instructor certified by the American Mountain Guide Association or the National Outdoor Leadership School. We operate under a “Challenge-by-Choice” philosophy where your child will choose how difficult of a climb to attempt–from introductory, to the more challenging, all the way up to our most challenging climb. The additional fee for the Rock Climbing Program Track is $125.
