What is Kesher? Kesher is an inclusive summer camp experience focused on fostering social and emotional development for campers with special needs. We create a community of counselors and peers who accept and embrace individual differences. Kesher campers receive personalized care from trained staff who have experience working with children with disabilities. In order to receive maximum benefit from our camp program, campers should be able to move around camp independently, use the bathroom independently and be able to communicate needs on a basic level. We recognize that every child is unique, and invite you to contact our Camp Director to discuss your camper’s specific case. How does it work? We get to know your child! Prior to the start of camp, we conduct an intake process that includes phone conversations, e-mails and/or in person conversations. We get to know your child’s strengths, challenges, likes, dislikes, etc. and work with you to establish goals and a plan for your child. This enables us to set up the most successful possible experience from the first moment to the last. A successful camp experience is based on the partnership between our camp staff and you in establishing consistency in care-giver response through camp, home and school environments. Additionally, we allocate the time and resources to understand the individual challenges of each case and work to overcome them creatively. We work with our campers to learn to advocate for their needs and to problem solve. Throughout your child’s time at camp, we will conduct ongoing evaluations of needs, progress and goals. We will communicate on a regular basis to problem solve and share successes!
