Summer Camp Sessions – 3-Week Session

July 25, 2017 @ 12:00 am - August 12, 2017 @ 12:00 am EST

—FULL SESSION (7weeks)— Each summer, many of our most loyal and returning campers choose to stay for the entire camp season. Staying for the full season is the best option for the true summer camp experience. A full season at Pok-O-MacCready offers the perfect balance of individual development and group activities, as well as all of the special events, horse shows, and wilderness trips scheduled throughout the summer. That’s why every summer, our four-week and three-week campers leave proclaiming, “Next year, I’m staying for SEVEN!” —FOUR WEEK SESSION— Our first session, encompassing the first four weeks of camp, offers campers all classes and activities along with many of camp’s fun and exciting all-camp games and special events. The session features inter-camp sports, overnight trips, horse shows, our famous Indian Days, the camper drama production, and an endless list of activities and instruction. With its dedication to our traditional camp principles of sound instruction and innovative activities, camp promises an action-packed four weeks at Pok-O-MacCready….but don’t be surprised if your four-week camper writes home asking, “Can I stay the final three weeks!?” —THREE WEEK SESSION— Pok-O-MacCready’s three-week experience is a consolidated and economical version of our full season. Just as in the longer sessions, campers attend instructional activities, venture out on trips into the Adirondack wilderness, and can choose to ride in weekly horse shows. As a special bonus, some of the most exciting events of the summer – Trip Week, the Big MacCready Horse Show, the camp sailing championship, and Crazy Clubs – occur during the final three weeks. The three-week session runs from late-July until mid-August, and culminates with an all-camp banquet, where campers take home awards to go along with enduring memories of their summers at Pok-O. There’s plenty to do, but the three weeks will fly by, leaving campers to say, “I’m not ready to go home yet!” — EQUESTRIAN PROGRAM Horseback riding was introduced to the camp program in 1967, and remains a favorite among campers of all ages and abilities to this day. Our experienced, international riding staff brings knowledge, patience, and a love of riding to each class. Campers from both the boys’ and girls’ camps enjoy all that our horseback riding program has to offer. Quality instruction is the key to success in equestrian pursuits. The Pok-O-MacCready program stresses a solid foundation in fundamentals, making for a confident rider who is ready to specialize in his or her chosen area, be it riding for pleasure or competition. However, Pok-O-MacCready’s riding program is about much more than simply instruction. Our Horsemaster program gives campers the opportunity to form strong bonds with their horses, as well as teaches responsibility and teamwork. Under the guidance of a Riding Director and six full-time instructors, five daily one-hour classes are offered. Campers can choose to take riding every day or every other day in addition to their regular summer camp tuition. Naturally, the classes are designed to fit the rider’s level: beginner leadline; basic walk, trot and canter; posting; hunter skills; and all levels of jumping. In addition, campers practice safety, while learning about the purposes and application of riding equipment: the saddle, stirrups, reigns, bit and crop. As the summer at camp progresses, campers are assured improvement, and are able to advance from one level to the next. Many of our most experienced riders return year after year, and continue to hone their riding skills while enjoying everything else camp has to offer. ———- Please visit our website to learn more about our sessions and programs. www.pokomac.com
