You aren’t likely to ever run into a doctor who disparages the idea of exercise as a means to promote good health. In addition to a nutritious diet, regular exercise is considered a must for anyone looking to maintain a healthy body weight and enjoy overall good health.
For many of us, the understanding that we are getting older is often coupled with the need to hit the gym. That way, we can do our due diligence in our quests to ward off the signs of aging.
Keeping fit, however, isn’t an item for the to-do lists of the middle aged alone. Exercise is for people of all ages. In fact, the younger one starts, the more opportunities he or she will have to live a long and healthy life.
This is why kids should be regularly active. Especially with so many gadgets, video games and other forms of technology that are prone to keeping our kids indoors these days, it’s important to find ways to get children up and about. Summer camp is, without question, an ideal solution.
The list of physical activities that campers enjoy practically has no end! There are camps, of course, that specialize in such sports as basketball and others in such recreational activities as dancing. But all summer camps are known for their inclusion of fun physical activities.
It can be confidently stated, therefore, that sending your child to summer camp is good for his or her health!
There are several benefits of exercise for children
There is a growing concern in America that people are becoming obese a lot earlier than life. And statistics are proving a reason for that concern.
A love of junk food combined with inactivity is proving to be a major problem for our nation’s children. An active lifestyle, on the other hand, not only helps kids to keep fit at young ages, but it will help them to ward off the health complications that are commonplace for people in their later years.
You’re never too young to learn the benefits of exercise. And there are many for your kids to enjoy!
It’s good for their hearts
According to the World Health Organization, heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death worldwide. This is especially troubling considering how easy these ailments are to avoid.
Quite simply, exercise helps to strengthen the heart. This is because your heart – a muscle – becomes stronger with exercise. Physical activity requires the heart to pump blood throughout the body at a higher rate.
Those who don’t exercise tend to weaken their hearts since less effort is required to pump that blood around their bodies.
Keeping active doesn’t just improve the heart’s strength but it increases the strength of our arteries and veins as well. These are the “tubes” that are used to carry blood to and from our hearts.
More exercise means less cholesterol and fat in our blood. As a result, we all stand to live longer lives simply by keeping active.
It’s good for their lungs
Naturally, we need our hearts to pump blood throughout our bodies. But, of course, we also need our lungs to keep us breathing. Exercise is great for strengthening our lungs.
When we keep active, we inhale more oxygen into our bodies and exhale more carbon dioxide.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute also reminds us that our capillaries, which are tiny blood vessels, widen thanks to physical activity. This helps them to deliver more oxygen to our bodies, while also helping us to eliminate more waste products.
Simply put, we can all breathe easier when we exercise!
It’s good for their minds
Studies have shown that regular exercise can diminish depression, anxiety and stress. And it should go without saying that the emotional well-being of our children is every bit as important as their physical health. It can certainly be argued that a good exercise regimen is an important part of any child’s life.
Research has proven that physical activity is as effective as antidepressant medications for those suffering from depression. Of course, exercise is undeniably the much healthier option considering the absence of the side effects that are commonly associated with meds.
Exercise creates changes in the brain that help to invoke feelings of tranquility. The release of endorphins, which are known to help brighten spirits, is a top benefit of exercise.
A relief from tension and stress will help your child excel in all ambitions and goals. Self-confidence counts for a lot. An active, physically fit child is placed in a better position to succeed, if for no other reason, because he or she is self-confident.
However, there is growing evidence that increased physical activity and fitness can significantly benefit a child’s academic performance in school. Numerous studies of children from a variety of age groups have shown that those who exercise have improved chances of excelling in the classroom.
There are several opportunities for exercise at summer camp
Climbing, running, jumping, hiking, rowing and swimming – these only begin to scratch the surface when it comes to listing the various activities that your child will enjoy at summer camp.
Not to mention, there is a wide variety of camps that cater to particular sports, as well. If your child enjoys baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, golf, tennis and/or gymnastics, there are camps that focus on each of these great sports.
